Sickness...

Oh man, oh man...I have fallen far behind and have made a goal to get caught up by the end of August.  We will see how that plays out. :)

Sickness seems to be plaguing our family this year.  It is getting rather expensive, so I'm hoping we are on the downside.  Ryah started out the year with some intestinal issues.  The doctor's ran some testing and her intestines were filled with "crap" to put it lightly.  It was so bad, it had gone over to the other side of her intestines where it wasn't supposed to be.  What I found odd in this whole thing was that she was still having regular bowel movements.  I never figured you could be so backed up if you were still going..anyway I guess you can.  The doctor at Primary's was great and we got on some good medicine/diet stuff and she seems to be doing great.

Then Ashlyn started on us.  Back in March, Ashlyn came down with a 103 fever.  After 4-5 days and the tylenol no longer breaking it, I took her in.  They ran some tests and everything came back negative.  They figured maybe she had this sickness that has a high fever for 7-10 days and then after that the kid breaks out in a bad rash all over and then they're through with it.  I don't recall the name.  After 12 days of still having the fever and never coming down with a rash, I took her back.  She was so sick.  I took her back to her pediatrician and after her being examined, the doctor ended up giving us orders to head to Primary's.  Her fever was at 104, her heart was racing 180-200bpm, she was lethargic, etc.  We got to Primary's and they admitted her and took her back for more testing.  She ended up having a  kidney infection...why all the tests were coming back negative was weird.  After a few days of being up there on antibiotics and fluids, she was a new kid.  I hope I never have to experience that again.  Thank goodness for family being around to take Ryah and Kes so Jared and I could stay with Ashlyn.  We really are so blessed to have people more than willing to help us out.

Little did I know I was next in line.  We had just gotten home from camping over Memorial Day.  I  was feeling chilled and my back hurt a little, but I didn't think anything of it.  The next day, I didn't want to move off the couch.  I had a fever and my body ached.  I decided to stick it out one more day before seeing the doc to see if my symptoms subsided.  That night I knew something wasn't right so I went to see the doc the next morning.  After some tests, they determined I had a bad bladder infection.  I thought this was weird because I have had issues my whole life with them and I know when I have one because the symptoms are always the same, but in this case, I was experiencing something different so I never would have guessed it.  They shot me up with antibiotics cause my counts were so high and sent me home.  Soon after I got home, I started puking.  I couldn't keep anything down.  I went back to the doctor the next day for another round of antibiotic shots because I still couldn't keep anything down.  When I got there, they recommended I go to the hospital.  So, to the hospital I went and was admitted.  I have never been so sick and in so much pain in my life.  I told Jared childbirth was easy compared to what I was going through.  After running test after test (I swear they drew blood 100 times), ultrasounds, etc, they said I had a severe kidney infection but were waiting for more cultures to grow, some would take up to 72 hours. What was frustrating is after having antibiotics in my system for 48 hours and then another 24 hours at the hospital, I still wasn't improving.  My counts were still crazy and the doctor's thought for sure having been on strong antibiotics for 72 hours already they should see some improvement.  My blood pressure was 80's/50's, my heartbeat would race, then slow, then race, etc..I still couldn't eat because it came right back up...it was a great time.  My family decided to hold a fast for me that Saturday.  Later in the day on Saturday, (I think it was through inspiration) the doctor's decided to change up my antibiotics and try something new. Thank goodness for their willingness to listen because it was only a matter of hours before I started feeling a thousand times better and my vitals started to improve.  After a few more days and cultures growing, they found out I had contracted a bacterial infection on top of the severe kidney infection so my body was trying to fight both at the same time.  I feel blessed for all the prayers on my behalf during this time.  I didn't realize how sick I was until I learned of a family member who lost her friend who was in her 30's last year because her body wasn't able to fight off the infections like mine was.  I came down with another kidney infection since being released, so I'm hoping I can go another week infection free so I can get another test done.  As for the bacterial infection, I don't remember what it is called, but it had some weird things that could still happen to me 6-8 weeks after everything was said and done.  It could cause paralysis starting from my feet and travel upward and put me into kidney failure.  I will be cleared from that one next week.

As for Keslee and Jared they were good until two weeks ago when they caught the flu.  They are both feeling much better now, thank goodness.

This is what Ashlyn did for almost two weeks straight...she was
either lying around sleeping or wanting me to hold her.

Trying to get some x-rays.

She just wanted to be held.

Ash and daddy cuddling one night

She was so miserable.

By the end of our hospital stay, Ashlyn was a new kid.  She
would actually get out of bed which hadn't happened for a few days.

I thought "bedrest" activity was only assigned to those pregnant.

Anyway, the last few months have been a little crazy at the Kay Household, but we are so grateful for our clean bill of health and hope we don't have anything else creep up on us.
